Burgundy & Provence

Sail the Rhône and Saône rivers from Arles to Dijon aboard AmaCello, discovering the Roman heritage of Provence, the flavors of Lyon and the vineyards of Burgundy on a seven-night journey through France.

Why I Chose This Journey

From the Light of Provence to the Vineyards of Burgundy

I chose this journey for the way the Rhône and Saône rivers connect two distinctive regions of France. From Arles, the Rhône leads through Provence, where Roman heritage, Van Gogh’s artistic legacy and Avignon’s historic streets invite a closer look. At Lyon, where the two rivers meet, the journey turns toward the Saône and Burgundy’s wine-growing landscapes. Sailing both rivers gives these discoveries a natural continuity, with a different sense of place unfolding along the way.

What draws me most is the balance between discovery and the pleasure of being there. One day might lead you through the streets of Avignon; another offers a truffle farm visit, a vineyard-region tasting or a bicycle ride along the river. There is room for curiosity and for your own preferred pace. Back aboard AmaCello, regional discoveries give way to dinner, conversation and the quiet satisfaction of watching the landscape unfold without having to pack for the next destination.

I also appreciate the time this journey allows for regional food, wine and everyday pleasures. The Rhône brings the history and flavors of the south into focus; the Saône offers another perspective through Burgundy’s riverside towns, abbeys and vineyards. With AmaCello as your base, you can enjoy those changes in landscape without packing between destinations. Optional stays in Nice and Geneva offer a Mediterranean beginning or a lakeside conclusion, each a distinctive complement to your journey through France.
